Rolland R. Grant, 84, passed away Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at RI Hospital surrounded by his family. Rolland, a lifelong East Providence resident, was the son of the late Earl and Mary (Silva) Grant.

He was the beloved husband of the late Pauline C. (Harris) Grant and the father of:

  • Kenneth PC DPS (Linda),
  • Kevin DET. EPPD,
  • James RI DPS (Shelley),
  • Michael RET. SGT. EPPD (Jeannie),
  • Daniel (Sheri),
  • Catherine (David)

He was the brother of the late Mary (Molly) Dorr.

He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Grant was a member of the East Providence City Council from 1990-2006 and served as Mayor for 2 terms.

He was a member of the East Providence Police Department for 35 years retiring as a Corporal. He was past president of the FOP Lodge #1 and the RI Police Officers Emerald Society - [ripoes.org]

In 1988, he was the RI Police Officer of the Year and a crisis intervention officer for East Bay Mental Health.

He was a graduate of Johnson & Wales University and received his Master’s Degree from Salve Regina University where he taught Criminal Justice.

Mr. Grant served his country honorably as a veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the Hibernians, RI Irish Famine Memorial and enjoyed celebrating by marching in the Newport and Providence St. Patrick’s Day Parades.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #1528 where he served as Grand Knight.

He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, his dogs Molly and Murphy, going to the movies, enjoying breakfast at Newport Creamery, spending time at Sand Hill Cove, playing Friday night cards at the Knights of Columbus and watching Notre Dame football games.

He was notorious for giving nicknames to people.

Mass of Christian Burial in St. Martha Church Pawtucket Ave, East Providence at 10 am.
Burial with Military Honors in the RI Veterans Cemetery. Visiting hours Sunday 4-8 pm.
